I’m the co-founder and Head of Technology of Gaius Therapeutics, an early-stage biotech company that uses a machine-learning-guided “genetic switch” discovery platform to design in vivo cell therapies precise enough to treat autoimmune disease.

I completed my PhD in the Bioinformatics and Systems Biology (BISB) program at UC San Diego in 2025 in Professor Hannah Carter’s Lab, and continued as a Schmidt AI Postdoctoral Fellow before co-founding Gaius.

My expertise sits at the intersection of gene regulation, single-cell biology, and deep learning. I build models of DNA sequence that decode how the regulatory genome works. These same models can be programmed to design entirely new regulatory sequences. Along the way I created EUGENe and several open-source tools, alongside my publications.

Outside of work, I’ve spent a decade in basketball, playing in college and professionally in Canada and Germany, then coaching. I also make music and write about all of it.
